My passion for photography began when I became fascinated by his father's Kodachrome slides and black and white images taken in Germany and Holland. My dad was an amateur photographer, and he gave me my first camera when I was six.

I carried a camera with me as an infantry platoon commander in the United States Marine Corps. Packing a camera throughout Japan, Okinawa, Diego Garcia, the deserts in California, the swamps of Florida and at the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base, gave me plenty of opportunities for photography.

I spent seven years as a newspaper photographer and writer covering sports, news and feature stories. The experience taught me to use photography to tell a story.

I gained recognition for both writing and photography through the Virginia Press Association by winning first place for general news writing and second place for photo essay in 1991. I also received second place in sports photography in 1987. Those were the only years I entered the annual press awards competition.

I worked for 10 years in public relations and shot photos for publicity purposes that included sending photos to publications across the nation. I continue to work as a stringer for the Associated Press.

I bring my journalistic style to the events, portraits and weddings I shoot. As a wedding photographer, I cover the event as an unfolding story allowing the couple to enjoy their day without the intrusion of photographic direction. Using available light as much as possible, I work to capture the moments that make each wedding unique.
